Introduction

Alright lads, instead of posting on facebook pages i wanted to do something a little more personal. My background is mainly winter cod fishing and lure fishing in the summer off the rock ends. The past few years i dabbled in the thought of bass fishing along with a few half hearted attempts. With a lot of research and  help through direct messages off friendly anglers online i decided to start my venture in the spring of 2020 on my home turf of northumberland.

The main spark for my newly found passion came from a bittersweet first session. It was a high water mark on a bright sunny day bang on high tide, my lass came along to read her book as it was more of a mess on than a serious session so i wasn't expecting much apart from some fresh air. Anyway second chuck of the day with a savage gear prey, a shallow diver in sandeel colour which is pretty damn close to a real sandeel as you can see.

That was cast over a ledge that stretched out maybe 15 yards out from the shore with a small drop off infront of it. After only one or two turns it all went solid and what can only be described as a stream train started to scream off on a fairly tight drag straight out to sea and straight towards a pile of boulders i had noticed at low water. shit! Apart from a few short pauses in the run, it never stopped for a good 20-30 yards. moments later the line went absolutely solid, straight into them boulders! My guess is the fish pinned the lure into some rocks and escaped (i hope, for its wellbeing). I pulled the line tight to a solid snag feel until it all give way and the smashed up remains of what used to be my leader fell into my hands soon after...

what a fish tho! what a buzz, i'd obviously lost the fish but it done nothing but give me a massive kick up the arse to say "the fish are here, the rest is up to you!" challenge accepted. Plus it would be too easy to land a biggy on my first proper go eh!

The rest of my season was an attempt to replicate a better version of that day with limited and varied success which i will go into in following blogs. Cheers!
Sam
